Part of 60 Secondes Radio broadcast
Most of us have been in a situation where the noise is unbearable, hard to negotiate. In some cases it's not possible to avoid. The solution play with the noise, be creative. Use the noise to your advantage by manipulating it as it arrives at you ears.
Percussive Plane, from a photograph by O.W. Chow (in Sound Photography part of Cities and Memory
Percussive Plane - The photograph is of a large glass wall which I associate with large train stations.
A large percussive surface exposed to wind, debris, rain, drizzle, sound waves and in the case of this photograph, man made noises from maintenance crews such a work ropes, glass cleaning tools and impacts. This large glass surface acts like a reflector amplifying the sounds that reach it. Found sounds where used to construct the soundscape.
Photograph by O.W. Chow - Cleaners maintain the transparency of the glass windows, Pudong International Airport.
